frogs

since the end of last week there has been a drastic increase in the frog population in the pond. the frog clicking noise has been driving me nuts, to the point where i cannot get to sleep because it's constantly clicking... so i have been wearing ear-plugs. that means i don't hear anything anymore, not even the alarm in the morning. that means if ed doesn't wake me, i'm likely to oversleep...

anyway, so frog population zero last week, one this week. or so i thought. after trying to hunt and get rid of the high-pitched clicking culprit on tuesday night with no success whatsoever, last night i succeeded in getting rid of 3 frogs! yes, 3!

but the high-pitched clicking continued. i slept with the ear plugs in and had a restful nights sleep. this morning i leaned over the bridge and looked under only to find (to my horror) 2 more frogs. there could be more, i only saw 2! there is also no way to get under the bridge without actually climbing into the pond. surely there must be an easier way to get rid of high-pitched clicking frogs?

tonight i'll try and get those frogs. i just hope they haven't laid eggs, the slimey buggers!

good luck dboobyer. if they are hiding in some foliage it's going to be rather difficult to catch them. so wait till the sun has gone down, they seem to come after sunset, actually when it's night time. you will need a torch in order to see them. you will also have to be quiet and sort of 'creep' up on them. then you need to have quick reflexes, frogs are pretty fast...

i wouldn't say i have preference over crickets or frogs, they are both equally annoying if there is a singular click / 'crick' (rather like a tap dripping), but a choir of them don't seem to bother me much!

we have clicking frogs in the water feature in our back garden but so far we haven't been able to see them. Will try Sarah's salt method. MUCH prefer them to those infernal crickets!!!!

i put salt down to get them out of the hard to reach places - they really don't like it! then i simply grabbed them with some gloves on because they are rather slimey and slippery. i then took them to the farthest water-hole from my house... they haven't returned or there are none left and it's peaceful now!

I am having the same problem, no sleep, and they seem to be multiplying. I see sarah said she has put salt about - does this help to get them out of hiding?
Is there anyone who can help with a solution - THEY ARE DRIVING ME ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!

in total i have now captured and rehabilitated 10 frogs. i also read somewhere that they can lay 2000 - 4000 eggs in mating season... salt is helping to keep them out of the concealed and hard to reach places but they are still making a racket. i will get all those noisy slimey buggers!

i got 2 more last night. i am a little sore from having to constantly lean over the bridge and chase them from under there.

it's not all of them though because later i heard 2 distinct clicks... they were pretty well behaved until midnight struck
