hype

i've often wondered how a crap song can be played on a radio station. more than once. i think it's got to do with money. the record companies pay for that crappy song to be played on the radio, alot. hoping to convince you, the listener, that it's actually popular. you might even think that lots of people have requested that song. nobody wants to be unpopular and not like what 'everyone' else is listening to, so you join in...

luckily i have a strong will and will not succumb to the record companies idea; that if i heard a crappy song 10 times in one week i'd actually 'crumble' and start liking it, hell, i might even go out and buy that crappy artists' album!

so when i stumbled across this article on bbc news, it just reaffirmed that they really don't care if the music is good, as long as there is hype (a number 1 hit for example) then they're happy and 'rolling in the dosh'.

granted it is a business. the artists need to make money, buy mansions and other expensive stuff. not if it's crap though.

seems i might even be right:

Mr Holmes said it would take several thousand additional sales to push a song from number 20 into the Top 10 and onto Top of the Pops.

With songs costing about 79p-99p each online, that would be money well spent for some labels, he added.
