what a chop!
our police of chief has said he hopes that the united states of america gets knocked out early on in the world cup so president barack obama will not come and visit our country...
the article is short, but the comment seems to be have been made in reference to our security being sufficient to have heads of state visit our country without their legions of bodyguards and secret service agents tagging along. it's not that they doubt it (though they should in my opinion), it's simply the way they travel. be it in their own back yard or to deepest darkest africa...
sometimes our 'leaders' need to think before they open they mouths and let words randomly fall out!

this tmo needs his eyes checked
i have been pretty busy because i should've written sooner about this but that tmo in the stormers vs brumbies match should have his eyes checked or get a better screen to watch the replays on because even on youtube it looks like a try to me...

the farce in the dark
finally, the cricket world cup is over! last nights game was quite a farce. the tropical, unpredictable caribbean weather made sure of that.
it didn't help that none of the match officials had a clue of what was going on, or so it seemed. i really believe that in those extreme conditions they should've postponed till the next day. seriously, how on earth were sri lanka ever expected to have a chance in those conditions?
and then australia prematurely celebrating, the organisers bringing the stands out for the ceremony - only to be told to remove them by the umpires...
ridiculous. hopefully the next world cup will be better organised and not so looooooong.
at work we had a tournament to see who could guess the outcome of the matches the best. for a chickie, i didn't do too bad. my highest standing at one stage was 3rd place. in the the end though i only managed come in 5th...

a good sunday
yesterday ed and i went and watched the nashua cape cobras play against the fidentia warriors at newlands. it was a beautiful day and my very first live sporting event, seriously. i really like the the pro20 format, it's very exciting and it's not lengthy or boring as a test match, although i guess a one day live match should be just as fun.
i was wishing i could see the slow replay sometimes, it was quite funny, because you have to focus on so much happening around you at a live event... and a bonus was that the cape cobras won with 6 balls remaining, needing 6 runs with an awesome 6 into the pavillion.

pool
this past w/end ed and i went to buckleys for the 8 ball pool competition we had entered during the week. we got there at 10am for registration... about 2 hrs before anything started happening! we played our first games just after midday and waited another hour for the next draw and then played quite a few games one after another.
there were only 3 ladies that entered and pitched on saturday so my round-robin knock-outs went very quickly. ed did well and we eventually left at around 4pm. on sunday we resumed our competing, but only arrived at about 2pm, as there were new competitors who had to make it through the round-robin to take on the previous days 'winners'.
i was in a different groove to the previous day and kicked ass. i did accidentally sink the white ball on one game (after sinking the black), which - if i hadn't - would've given me 1st place in the women's competition.
then i had to start playing the men and i dissappointingly went out in my first encounter...
all in all i was suprised by my 'skills' ;) alas, i did not win anything as there wasn't a very good turnout...
i do want to mention that i was extremely dissappointed in the organisation of the event, i seriously doubt that anyone who attended this event organised rather shoudily by funscapes will consider attending another one, if there is ever another one.

chaotic
i had last week off in order to move our home from bloubergstrand to duynefontein. there were alot of things to be done, alot of running around to do and being accosted by a psycho woman at canal walk on friday didn't help matters much, plus i had to organise to get ed's birthday present to the new house without him knowing a thing...
all in all, the move has been acheived. the office is set-up, sort of. the network was configured but that's gone wonky. the adsl is not playing nicely either. i guess it might be networking skills though, which are not good. all other rooms are completely moved in and sorted.
i had great success in getting ed's pressie to the new house without him catching wind. i had further success in concealing what the pressie was aswell. *smile* he was ecstatic, mission accomplished.
psycho woman at canal walk? well that's a long one. here's the condensed story: paid for parking, leaving building. woman entering building. accuses me of taking her parking ticket from the machine. i deny this. she insists and grabs my paid-for parking ticket. i protest some more. she insists i've stolen her ticket. i wrestle the ticket out of her hand. she calls me all sorts of nasty things and follows me to my car. i'm flabbergasted. shaking my head, i motion to her that is infact a psycho... she's in her car next to me frantically searching for her misplaced ticket ( i hope she found it and felt like a right tit). i drive away with crumpled, torn ticket. it doesn't work at the gate but the kind parking attendant takes pity on me after i mention psycho woman and he lets me out... phew!
poor germany. i had hoped they would make it to the finals, but last night's game with the final goal in extra time was quite a kick in the balls... i'm hoping france will play well this evening and make it through to the finals.

soccer fever
last night we sat back and watched the big boys (aka brazil) take on a very impressive croatia. by the time half time came along i seriously wanted to switch off and go to bed...
everytime a croatian player 'took on' a brazilian player for the ball, that brazilian player took a great fall and was awarded a penalty. not only is brazil playing like babies, it's alot of the teams and it's seriously ruining any viewing pleasure i might have had. i thought the ref in this particular match was playing favourite with brazil, because when the croatians made a very fair claim against the brazilians attacking dangerously it fell on the ref's deaf ears...
i heard that ref's were told to penalise against dangerous tackling on 'star players' and it appears it is true.
"What has been clearly said to referees is 'please protect the physical integrity of the players', and that means protecting the big stars," Blatter said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
now the whole tournament is going to be a big 'fall down' fest. yay!

defeated
it was really horrible watching the twenty20 international between australia and south africa today. i can't believe that our cricket team couldn't do better than that! they crumbled...
particularly horrible is they were unable to complete their innings of a mere 20 overs. bleh! oh, and losing 2 wickets, one after the other, in the 18th (last) over.
check out the scorecard if you happened to have missed it and want to torture yourself!

vball and static
here's some pics from ed playing volleyball this past sunday and winning bronze!
i helped sub when warren wasn't available, so i ended up getting a bronze medal aswell as a silver because the girls 6-a-side i subbed for won silver... two medals in one day and i didn't lift a finger!
lately i've had a ton of
static electricity, so much so, that i am constantly shocking myself on every surface imaginable. i see sparks and it's usually accompanied by a cackle sound...
be it ed's nose when we go in to kiss (it's happened only once so far), the car door on my leg or hand - which ever touches first, work collegues, the door at work... i thought it was because i was tying my hair up, but that's just a part of it because i still shock but not with such a kick when my hair is loose. it must be the clothes i am wearing. it's a good thing there's not much lightning here in cape town, it's quite likely that i would attract a very unwelcome bolt of lightning!

volleyball
on friday evening ed and i were due to play volleyball at the action cricket arena in montague gardens, but earlier in the day he called to say that the team that needed us, no longer does. that meant that i didn't have to rush there after work, i could take my time and meet up with ed later as he was due to play a 2-a-side men's match later anyway.
i get there in time to see the match before ed's team, it's more fun playing, so i ended up watching the cricket...
ed gets there a little late, but it doesn't matter because his opponents didn't pitch. so a couple of us mess around on the field, basically practising.
warren leaves cause he's got a party he's got to get to, ed and i are about to pack up and leave too when a girl comes over and asks if i'd like to play a 5-a-side girls match. yeah, sure!
it was really cool too. it's nothing like the 6-a-side mixed team (3 girls and 3 boys). the girls stayed in their positions, they hit the ball and they served like the best of them. they played again later and i joined them again... it's a really good, fun work-out.
the 6-a-side mixed team is frustrating as hell right now. the guys don't think us girls can play and they're quite often in our positions, hitting our shots and not often in their position to take the shots we try to pass to them. it's still early days aswell, not everyone has mastered their serves or how to hit the volleyball without it hurting like hell. the only way i know around that is to practise and simply get used to it...
anyway, if playing with the 5-a-side girls taught me anything, it's that we are going to be having lots of fun and getting real good at volleyball! i'm so looking forward to the next match...

rough
last night was good, but today i feel a little rough around the edges...
after slogging away at work on the java app and not making a tremendous amount of progress, i decided to sit down in the front of the laptop at home and for change not play hereos but rather try and get around the one last bit of functionality i needed to finish the app! although i was distracted, i managed to get it done... yes, i finally got it! now i just have to put all the other things in, but the functionality is there and i am going to make my deadline. yay!
so, we celebrated. we grabbed 2 pommies and headed to buckley's to play some pool and watch england try and reach 312. they did pretty well in the end, but not enough. it's a pity that we don't have pietersen on our side... 100 of 69 balls, way to go!
anyway, we got the pommies horribly drunk, showed them a good time and fed them before we got home this morning at 1am. all on a week night! although i didn't drink a ton, it doesn't take much for me to get drunk nowadays and the consequences the next are always horrible. my head's not pounding but even after a juicy salad i still feel yuk!
can some-one please turn the brightness down?
