10 more sleeps...

Yay!! Kaptain will be home soon! Anyway, I do have some major gripes that I would love to get off my chest.... the cost of buying a house - no, not the cost of the actual house... but all the "fees" and "charges" and "commissions", etc. I have forked out almost 10% of the cost of the house - on top of the cost of the house - to subsidise the attornies' lavish lifestyle and to contribute to the managers of standard bank flying around the world in private jets.... These exessive costs were never mentioned by the wonderfully friendly estate agent (who, might I add, drives a BMW 4-wheel drive!!) My folks reckon it is worth it, but I honestly think it is day-light robbery... Probably chose the wrong career path!!!! Ahhhh - that feels better!!! See you all very soon! K x

travelling too much?

well i am finally back at work here in dresden after what seems to have been a really busy month of travelling, even though i have been here for 1.5 months now i have been back and forth to berlin every week, also been to wiebaden, frankfurt and hamburg, all for the sake of trying to find a job for next year! I was offered the job in wiesbaden ( but I draw the line at living in a caravan for a year and travelling to a different city every week - sound too much like a circus to anyone;-) this past week i travelled to hamburg to audition for the cruise ships as a singer/dancer, the audition seemed to go well and i have had some good feedback so far but of course i will have to wait to hear a yay or nay! next week i am staying in bed all day on my off day and not doing anything until i absolutely have too (over 5 000 km of travel in the last month is enough thanks - german transport system is great but hey) and of course in this lovely german weather it is best to stay in bed and dream about sunny beaches, with the sun setting closer to 4pm everyday the indoor swimming pool and sauna are gonna have to keep me cheery!

worst song of all time

apparently it's the beatles song; ob-la-di, ob-la-da... even though i never read the article, i now have the damn song in my head on repeat. i'm starting to think that it might just be right up there with the worst songs ever. but i can honestly think of some other songs more worthy of that title. the macarena, they actually repeated it a few times the other night for some very hyperactive kiddies when we were getting a burger special at the spur. i also can't stand that frozen song by madonna. what's your worst song of all time?

on the move pt.2

so yesterday ed and i viewed a property in parklands, very close to the spar and planet fitness in parklands. it's well nice and has tons of potential. the price is not right though so we're going to offer less than the asking price which apparently is less than the seller originally wanted anyway. i'm just not mad enough to go for some the ridiculous asking prices at the moment. we'll see what happens. and yes, it means we didn't eventually go for the property in yzerfontein. but we do dream of owning that much land one day :) i read an article today that said the bubble is about to burst in the property market, but they have failed to let us know when that is going happen. i didn't want a definite date but they could've said somewhere around january or something to help some of us out you know? i have tomorrow off. in the morning i'll be visiting the dentist (after about a year) and then i'll be moving ed and myself out of simon's pad into my mom's which is currently getting abit of a makeover - instead of carpets the bedroom is getting a lamented wooden floor... nice.

2 blog or not 2 blog that is the

So I just got an sms asking me why I do not blog more often even though I am online a lot more than usual the anwer is quite simply lazyness, and although i am on tour and have less oppertunities to blog than a lot of people with home connections every once and a while I get a mind fart worth sharing with everyone online (like this one...he eh he) So winter is arriving, life in Germany is getting cold and the parties are getting hot!!! the last week and a half has been a choatic trek through germany to meet friends and party with them until the wee hours of the morning, I am glad to be back in Dresden working because I will actually get some rest now! I have been phoning home less, for the mere fact that when I am travelling getting to a phone shop is not the easiest task... and am still waiting to hear from my brother (hi simon, how are you ???) kind of hear from my sister because I read the blog every couple of days even though it is not direct contact, my mother calls every so often if I wait too long to call her and my father... chatted to him in Feb... (sounds like I am moaning... because I am, but hey life is short and phone calls are easy to make!) I have been offered a job working for a travelling circus, yes my final transition into becoming a fully fledged clown with my own caravan and everything, I turned it down, there are some things i just won´t do... I got an offer to be a porn star, took a business card... who knows life might get desperate (only kidding but beats the hell out of being a clown!) So life is going great right now, I am working having fun and looking forward to the next trip home to SA whenever that might be ;-) Summer- Beach - Cocktails mmmm

on the move

after some thought and procrastination, ed and i have decided to move on and leave my boet to have some time to his girlie uninterrupted. it's been pretty cool housesitting for him. we are temporarily moving to my mom's to help her out abit (and she'll be helping us too) until we can find a suitable place for ourselves. more than likely it'll be in tab-le-view... oh, the horror of it all! this time next week it's the american elections and i don't know why i'm so interested but i have been following the polls, the electoral polls, the debates and pretty much anything that has the words bush or kerry in it. it's very disturbing for me to see so many people supporting bush. all those americans getting the wool pulled over their eyes... nassty! we played fuessball with your boetie the other night. i couldn't stop laughing because you guys pretty much play the same way... it was good :)

property

a big congrats to kaptain for the approval of her offer to purchase in royal ascot. nice! ed and i are also almost property owners! on saturday we went and viewed a big piece of land in yzerfontein. we put an offer down and on monday afternoon we found out the seller has accepted our offer. now we too have to sort out a bond and accept the body corporate 'rules and regulations' before we are fully fledged property owners. :) it's a big step and i'm pretty much in 2 minds about it right now. there is a lot of planning and work having to go into all of this... we don't quite have our grubby paws on the property, so lets not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Hello boys and girlies!!

Another one who has left the wonderful Cape for London??? Not great timing... the weather is changing fast and Nix is already complaining about the cold!! If someone could send contact details, it'd be great to see another face from cape town! *News* Kaptain is about to become a home-owner - pending a positive outcome from the bond application!! But the seller has accepted my offer and the ball is rolling (and picking up speed faster than I would like!) It's a little two bed two bath place in Royal Ascot with great, undisturbed views of my Mountain and the fynbos!! Can't wait to live there... eventually! Anyway, hope you are all well and that you are enjoying the Sun... Chat later, Hugs, K xx

almost no-one left!

on saturday we hosted a farewell party for derek, who is leaving our shores on thursday to have some fun, fun, fun in the uk. the pics have been posted in the 'misc' gallery, so hop on over and check them out. i got a funny video clip of the current president of the us of a in my mailbox this morning. it's not very big, so have a look and a good ol' laugh at how he explains what "tribal sovereignty" is.

bug attack

so last night we went to the airport to fetch simon. after months of him being away, we thought it would be appropriate to welcome him home in style (okay maybe not very stylish, but it was cool). click on the pics to enlarge... note: we are dressed as the good kind of ladybug (or ladybird) and not like it's deadly, rival ladybug

change

hmmm, it's been quite a couple of hectic weeks here in sarah-land. it's been a challenge coming to terms with our offices moving in december to black river parkway, right opposite the river club (observatory). the commute there is not going to be pleasant. it sucks because i have just perfected my route through to town... now we go and move (did some-one scream "murphy's law"?). so i'll have to sort out my route to obs now and no, the m5 is not an option unless you are suicidal! it seems more than likely that i'll be commuting through to town and then back-tracking through woodstock via the m4. i have changed the look abit here on phunkd. you guessed it... i get bored easy and have far too much time on my hands. not that i'm sitting around doing nothing folks, i am messing around with photoshop and trying to be more creative. this w/end was a blast, although somewhat tiring and painful. we played fussball till the wee hours of the morning on friday. saturday morning ed and i went to gawie's farewell (he's off to new zealand on thursday) and we had a chance to wakeboard while we were there. i am major unfit i guess because my right leg hurts real bad from the strain of trying to stand up (it took a couple of water-splats to get it right). it was great fun, we are definitely going to do that again! simon arrives tonight, after being away for about 2 months. we're going to the airport to welcome him home, abit of a surprise happening there (i'm not sure if he reads the website so i won't say what, but will post pics soon)

politics

i've been following the hype around the american elections happening in november. last night was the first round of the debates, which according to most news articles i've read, can either make or break the candidates. i am happy that kerry faired well. this morning cnn is on in the background and i'm catching bits and pieces of the re-broadcast. seems like bush is quite uncertain as much as he says he is certain... on the issue of iran and nuclear weapons (not word for word, just a general break-down of their debate on this issue): kerry: we must put sanctions on iranbush: we have put sanctions on iran kerry: it doesn't help to sanction iran by ourselves. we need to do so within our coalition (ie. france, germany, britain etc.) bush: it wasn't our administration that put sanctions on iran dilly-dallying there abit mr president? for those interested, here are the links to the transcripts of the above mentioned... Transcript: Are diplomacy, sanctions effective?, followed onto into the next question (they both weren't finished on the issue of iran...). Transcript: Why not send troops to Sudan?

Kaptain's BACK!!!

Hey all... sorry for being so quiet. My excuse - haven't checked my yahoo address for ages!! Anyway, I am now registered and should be posting far more regularly and keep you all up to date. Great finally having Nix here - and yeah, we have had a couple of big nights out to keep the tradition alive!! Not much news in the way of travelling... although planning to go skiing in Feb, a trip to Scotland for Xmas and a week end in Ireland to visit Adrian - who has been bumming around there for just over a month. He is due back fairly soon though, so I gotta get up there before he gets back!! Work in the city is going well - still working long hours, but being very well looked after in the social front... plenty of nights out, dinners and drinks. (STILL) in the process of tring to find a place to stay down in South London... been looking around the Clapham area without much luck. Either the places are really small, really dirty or dodgy ex-council estates!!! But hoping something will come up soon!!! (Taxi's up to North London at 3am can be very expensive!!!) Well my fellow bloggers, hope you are all well and - in the case of Sarah and Ed - enjoying married life!! Keep well and BLOG ON!!! hugs, Kaptain xxx

a tough week

so far it's been a hectic week for both ed and i. yesterday i was abit upset because of the crappy work i've currently been doing. converting pdf's into html. it really sucks, there really is nothing worse. after all the training i've been doing to get to grips with sql server over the past 3 months (aswell as investing in textbooks) and also php (this site is a good example of my progression in that direction). it's like i've been told to mop the floor and although i have a mop, i have to get on my hands and knees and scrub it! uuuurgh. then this morning ed and i were woken by a call from one of his clients. it seems that some-one has taken some earrings and a chocolate from his wife's draw in the bedroom and also fiddled with the alarm system. this is very uncool. it's put him in quite a position. firstly, his staff could be untrustworthy and secondly, he could lose out on getting paid for services rendered. he went to the police station to sort it out this morning, hopefully this will get sorted out. i know i once accused our domestic of misplacing some cd's of mine and it was unfounded because i later discovered that i had infact lent them out to a friend (she never forgave me for that). so i am hoping that it's not actually a case of theft but rather some forgetfulness... tonight i will have a cool, large spiced gold and lemonade and hope that the rest of the week turns out to be better than it has been so far!
