could it be true?

it looks like south africa will finally join most of the world in having access to cheaper, faster broadband... but only in early 2009 and courtesy of the second national operator, aka neotel.the heading of the article is "Cheaper broadband service in SA soon", i guess 1 and a half years isn't really that long.yay for neotel! hopefully they can deliver when they say they will!

ampli5

at the very last minute ed and i decided to go to the ampli5 concert at the bellville velodrome. what a great evening...the bands were awesome. although i must say i didn't recognise some of the songs. i was well chuffed to watch the violent femmes live. other honorable mentions are love jones, the parlotones, fokofpolisiekar. i see that the gang of instrumentals played at the other venues and i definitely would have loved to have seen them.ed and i got there a little late, and beat the queuing crowds, yay. we then noticed that there were gold (for golden circle) and blue (for the cuervo vip section) bracelets. you could buy the gold ones, ofcourse, but the blue bracelets required your name to be on the 'vip' guest list. it turns out that damien's sister managed to get some for them... but try as i might the guys giving them out wouldn't be bribed to give ed and i a pair.but, cunningly i managed to get my paws on a pair anyways (i will not divulge how though) and we managed to access the vip area... very cool!

Codename: Milan

wow, this is pretty cool. it's a coffee table with a touchscreen, running on a windows vista os.it's actually a little more than that. it's revoluntionary and due to be launched as soon as november 2007.according to the possibilities promo video, you'll be able to split the bills by simply dragging your items across to your credit card. it also recognises physical objects, but i bet they have to have microsoft os's...another video, a demo on how they envision this working the real world

oopsie

it seems you can't turn a corner without some-one new adding you as a friend in facebook. some days, even when you don't really have the time, you find yourself trawling all your friend's friend's to see if there is some-one new to add. it's rather addictive even just to 'poke' some-one every other day.unfortunately i haven't had much luxury time and haven't really embraced the whole thing. luckily for me, some of my friends have and they keep sending me new links for new, cool tools. today i added the slideshow thingy and it seems i broked it a little... not badly though and i think they've made quite an awesome application!

a decline in spam?

it looks like the americans have caught one of the world's most wanted terrorists (imo anyway).US prosecutors said they captured on Wednesday a nefarious Internet marketer responsible for so much junk email they called him "Spam King".this guy spammed 10's of millions of email addresses and they want to seize a mere $773,000? i know that spammers only make very small percentage on their efforts. but take 10's of millions and take a 0.1 percentage of that on an item that sells for $10... that's a lot more than $700,000!either way, the longer this guy stays in prison, the better for all of us.update: ha, that was wishful thinking... no decline in spam. oh damn

harry potter and star wars

i'm not a fan of either, only having watched bits and pices of either, and unfortunatelty more than that sometimes. needless to say, neither rock my boat, but i have a general idea of what the storyline for both are. so, when i spotted this, it was just too good that i just had to help spread it around the internets...

long overdue

well, i think this must be a record, 2 months without blogging? things just got very hectic. i was thinking of back dating some posts i had in mind, but never got around to actually posting. i still might do so, so this'll be a shortish one.next week is my 30th. i think this a monumental milestone? i still have to have a good sit down with myself and determine what 30 should mean to me personally. i haven't felt much about birthdays (or should i say ageing) and still don't 'worry' that i'm getting older. though, i do feel i should make some time to figure out if more of my dreams can come true beyond 30 (and before 40) and what steps / leaps i need to make for those dreams to come true.

the farce in the dark

finally, the cricket world cup is over! last nights game was quite a farce. the tropical, unpredictable caribbean weather made sure of that.it didn't help that none of the match officials had a clue of what was going on, or so it seemed. i really believe that in those extreme conditions they should've postponed till the next day. seriously, how on earth were sri lanka ever expected to have a chance in those conditions?and then australia prematurely celebrating, the organisers bringing the stands out for the ceremony - only to be told to remove them by the umpires...ridiculous. hopefully the next world cup will be better organised and not so looooooong.at work we had a tournament to see who could guess the outcome of the matches the best. for a chickie, i didn't do too bad. my highest standing at one stage was 3rd place. in the the end though i only managed come in 5th...

another increase

this is insane, the petrol price went up again today.when i went to the garage earlier in the day, there were queues of cars waiting to fill up. deep down i know one tank of fuel really doesn't make too much of a difference. it would be better if you could buy in 'bulk' before the increase, cause it'd really make a difference then.sheez man, this just means everything else is going to go up now. when the petrol price comes down (hopefully), do you think the other 'knock-on' price increases will?

finally

tonight lost season 3 starts on m-net. it feels like i've been waiting for this to happen for over a year now. season 1 completely knocked my socks off, season 2 was abit like a car with an engine problem... sputtering along. although there were some pretty good episodes - especially towards the end.season 3 episode 1 synopsis:Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are prisoners of the mysterious ''Others.'' After their captors drug them and take blood samples, they are held in separate areas. The camp leaders--Ben (Henry Gale), Mr. Friendly and a new woman, Juliet--try to make the castaways adjust to their new circumstances. Flashbacks reveal more about Jack's past with his father and his wife Sarah.i'm well curious about what's going to happen next, hopefully it's a damn good episode!i hope it's not confusing like prison break, when i tuned in on tuesday evening last week for the 1st episode of season 2 (also on m-net) i was wondering if they had accidentally skipped an episode because season 1 ended with them fleeing in the night and season 2 started with them fleeing through some mini forest during the day?

lotto troubles

looks like politics has gotten in the way of the company who is supposed to take over the management of the national lottery from the 1st of april.what gets me is that it seems to be a case of the pot calling the kettle black here:It appeared that prominent ANC members held financial interests in both Gidani and Uthingo.not to mention, as the title of the article states, the numerous jobs on the line...and as far as transparency goes, Gidani, can the public see the procedures and steps that were taken to decide who was awarded the management of the national lottery? or do we simply take your word for it?update: seems like there won't be any lotto for the wanna-be millionaires for at least a month... bummer

a good sunday

yesterday ed and i went and watched the nashua cape cobras play against the fidentia warriors at newlands. it was a beautiful day and my very first live sporting event, seriously. i really like the the pro20 format, it's very exciting and it's not lengthy or boring as a test match, although i guess a one day live match should be just as fun.i was wishing i could see the slow replay sometimes, it was quite funny, because you have to focus on so much happening around you at a live event... and a bonus was that the cape cobras won with 6 balls remaining, needing 6 runs with an awesome 6 into the pavillion.

good news?

the first 2 news articles on the local news websites i peruse - from this morning, (i will not surmise, just go and read them):IOL:Mbeki to get R90m security wall'Blood on the floor' if Zuma rechargedNews24:Mbeki's 'secret' R90m wallFrench firms 'circling Eskom'iafrica: 'R90m wall for Mbeki' Fidentia boss defends R8m loan nothing very positive out there to start your tuesday morning... plus i think it's ludacris that our current president and the future president's of this country should get a R90 million wall around their residence when we are having such a debate about ordinary citizens not feeling safe. we are screaming for more to be done about crime...

right on

yesterday i stumbled across an article about the excessive 'sexy' being shown in music videos. i agree with the columnist, infact i noticed it be rather ridiculous when i saw the black eyed peas 'my humps' video one afternoon with a friend's 8 year old - i gringed! i haven't made a point of looking for it in music videos, i must admit, i don't even watch the looped, 20 music videos on mtv anymore. but earlier today i managed to see the video for pink's 'stupid girls' and i tell you what, she is the coolest person ever! spot on...
