schools
the place were kids learn for a better future (among other things, kids will be kids right?) have gone back to school this week. mostly bad news for me because the traffic has gone to the dogs as a result. not my main concern though... that goes to the stupid assholes who break into schools and steal their resources. in this day and age a computer is not for a pupil seeking to 'specialise', computers are used in most offices nowadays, useful to every single pupil in our schools. for the shuttleworth foundation to give back to the disadvantaged in a really helpful way is just awesome. for a scumbag to deliberately break into a school and steal those gifts is despicable... and it wasn't as if the community wasn't getting anything out of the deal, the schools had 'open days' for the surrounding community (it's probably when the scumbags 'cased' out the places). more stories about schools and kidsPosted by sarah | add a comment | crime, debate

chaotic
i had last week off in order to move our home from bloubergstrand to duynefontein. there were alot of things to be done, alot of running around to do and being accosted by a psycho woman at canal walk on friday didn't help matters much, plus i had to organise to get ed's birthday present to the new house without him knowing a thing... all in all, the move has been acheived. the office is set-up, sort of. the network was configured but that's gone wonky. the adsl is not playing nicely either. i guess it might be networking skills though, which are not good. all other rooms are completely moved in and sorted. i had great success in getting ed's pressie to the new house without him catching wind. i had further success in concealing what the pressie was aswell. *smile* he was ecstatic, mission accomplished. psycho woman at canal walk? well that's a long one. here's the condensed story: paid for parking, leaving building. woman entering building. accuses me of taking her parking ticket from the machine. i deny this. she insists and grabs my paid-for parking ticket. i protest some more. she insists i've stolen her ticket. i wrestle the ticket out of her hand. she calls me all sorts of nasty things and follows me to my car. i'm flabbergasted. shaking my head, i motion to her that is infact a psycho... she's in her car next to me frantically searching for her misplaced ticket ( i hope she found it and felt like a right tit). i drive away with crumpled, torn ticket. it doesn't work at the gate but the kind parking attendant takes pity on me after i mention psycho woman and he lets me out... phew! poor germany. i had hoped they would make it to the finals, but last night's game with the final goal in extra time was quite a kick in the balls... i'm hoping france will play well this evening and make it through to the finals.Posted by sarah | comments (7) | chillin', humour, personal, sport

soccer fever
last night we sat back and watched the big boys (aka brazil) take on a very impressive croatia. by the time half time came along i seriously wanted to switch off and go to bed... everytime a croatian player 'took on' a brazilian player for the ball, that brazilian player took a great fall and was awarded a penalty. not only is brazil playing like babies, it's alot of the teams and it's seriously ruining any viewing pleasure i might have had. i thought the ref in this particular match was playing favourite with brazil, because when the croatians made a very fair claim against the brazilians attacking dangerously it fell on the ref's deaf ears... i heard that ref's were told to penalise against dangerous tackling on 'star players' and it appears it is true. "What has been clearly said to referees is 'please protect the physical integrity of the players', and that means protecting the big stars," Blatter said at a press conference here on Tuesday. now the whole tournament is going to be a big 'fall down' fest. yay! more here and herePosted by sarah | add a comment | sport

it's time
i've been quiet, i know, but i have some things 'hanging in the air'... in anticipation of ed's birthday on the 30th of june, i cleaned the back wall of 'old' the grafitti on a recent sunny day. the idea and venue for the party have changed though, come the 30th of june we're more than likely not going to be at our current address. because of the f*^@ers, we've seriously decided to move and we've found a really nice spot near the nuke plant in duynefontein. we haven't got it yet - it's 'hanging in the air' right about now - but i hope we do get it. if we do, on the 1st of july we'll be having abit of a party to celebrate ed's birthday... yay! tomorrow, ed and i are going to an allen carr 'easyway' course. this means, hopefully, come tomorrow afternoon we'll both be non-smokers. i'm a little nervous because i have attempted to quit before with no luck at all! ed, on the other hand, seems rather excited. wish us luck!Posted by sarah | add a comment | personal

unacceptable
the striking security guards went on a 'rampage' through central cape town yesterday. mayhem, war zone... the use of words in this article pretty much summed it up. i just happened to bump into a friend who works on the foreshore last night and was told that the way it was described on the news and news websites was pretty accurate. he ended up having to get another a friend to come pick him up in town because there weren't any buses running. the way the strikers behaved yesterday is unacceptable. no doubt there are some among them who think that through this violent behaviour their demands for their increase will be met. maybe it will be, but it shouldn't. this violence shouldn't be rewarded. sawatu has to pay for the damage that their members caused. the negotiations have to be realistic and fair, seriously some of these people are earning peanuts for the work that they do. however, that does not mean that their behaviour yesterday was acceptable, it wasn't!Posted by sarah | add a comment | politics, ranting

setup
so zuma got off on the rape charge. i had no doubt that he would. i also have no doubt that it was all a setup to take pressure off the corruption trial. i'm not saying it didn't happen, i seriously doubt it did though. it was a clever political spin to take everyone's eye off the real picture here (the corruption charges). when the corruption trial starts, zuma and his supporters will scream that the media is attacking an innocent... however, i really think there was a corrupt relationship between the arms dealers, shaik schabir (who hasn't served a single day on his sentence - appeals, aren't they just lovely?) and zuma. the circus around this rape trial has taken alot of credibility out of the prosecuting team's case and they haven't even started.Posted by sarah | add a comment | politics

building
so we're adding some plugs to one side of the wall. we knock / grind the cement away. we get the plastic tubing to go into the wall. the wires, the plugs and a bag of mortar for patching it all up afterwards. the boys are going for it (jed and des). ed is running around like a blue assed fly and i'm showing dyan, moller and vincent some stuff in the office. they leave and i go to carry on helping the boys... so i start taking this mortar and putting it in the wall. i'm confused though because it looks like sand... but i'm not too worried because jed has one house under his belt already and he knows what's going on. apparently not! the boys didn't read the instructions on the mortar ('ready mixed') package. where it said in step 2: add cement...Posted by sarah | add a comment | humour
