slow...

blogging has been slow going. i am sorry i have been pretty busy. that's always good. rockachic has finally hit our shores. she's not staying the 3 months she mentioned before, but for a very good reason. she's going to roadtrip through the states. from west to east coast... exciting (and dangerous, if we know rockachic)! i'm awaiting lauren's arrival. i hope it's soon, because her birthday was just the other day. other than that i am spinning. woohoo

a celebration

last night we celebrated my mom's birthday in true style. we gathered at the lagoon beach hotel in milnerton with a view to kill and luckily for us, the symphony of fire was on last night aswell. so we got a really good show and some nice chow. quite honestly i think they really could step up their offerings in the food department. the only thing i liked was the dessert and that's never really a hard thing to do. it's a very swanky hotel but a gourmet burger will never go wrong. i've seen other swanky spots do it and people pay the price just to have the burger... i would've!

jeepers

i don't normally 'duplicate' info that i saw on another blog but i have do have a different angle... the pic is of a guy on a sea kayak with a 4 metre shark following far too closely for my liking. it surfaced on the net and made the rounds. eventually some people wanted some answers, surfski.info gladly obliged and according to them alot of people thought the photo was faked. it turns out it wasn't though! and, i actually know the crazy guy who is pictured in the photo, it's tracey's ex-hubby. he's being living and breathing sharks for ever and has been based in gansbaai for a while now. he actually took me out to dyer island to do some shark watching a few years back - nope, no cage diving for me. anyway, i think it takes alot of guts to kayak around the ocean with 4 metre sharks lurking around!

cute and furry

we've had a mouse in our house. i was completely unaware of it's presence and that's saying alot because i spend a good deal of time in my humble abode. anyway, brave ol' melanie discovered our cute, furry visitor very shortly after starting work in the office one morning. rumor has it that she shrieked and pulled her legs up high to avoid hurting it. it scurried away... anyway, last night or late yesterday afternoon it made another appearance, this time the boys thought they would have a go at catching it and putting it back into nature. they didn't manage to hit it with the pellet gun but they did manage to chase it into our bedroom. much later on i got home after playing volleyball and saw the lounge in it's post-'catch-the-mouse' state and thought nothing more of it. i grabbed the laundry basket out our room and out jumps our cute, furry friend. i shrieked. ed and i catch it. we take lots of flashy photo's of it... weird, i know. then we set him free into nature (just over our wall are a ton of bushes). this morning, while taking the washing out of the tumble dryer i find my favourite pants all eaten up. thanks to cute, furry mouse - who i hope suffered immensely when we took all those photo's of it and i hope never returns again. i'll kick it's ass! it better steer clear of me because, i must admit after the week and a bit that i have had, i'll wring it's bloody neck!

some wedding pics...

i developed a cms for my brothers website... um, for both actually. but more recently for my older brother, so he could upload pics from his wedding. all his friends and family all over the world could then check them out, yay! it's based on the gallery that i have made for my website but has yet to be implemented because i'm working on a ton of stuff for the cms. hopefully i'll get my ducks in a row and get this huge monster up and running soon!

maybe i was wrong!

So my last blog was about the end of winter and how great it is that the sun was finally fighting it's way out of the clouds... I was wrong, the clouds seem to be winning! which i suppose is okay for the moment considering i want to go snowboarding one last time next week friday! I have only got 4 days of work left until i am on holiday with a couple of days work in april and then my month off in may! yeah HOLIDAY! then it will of course be full steam ahead into the land of stress, costumes and sets to design and to make! So i guess that is about it from this side of the world, everyone get ready to celebrate another year gone by... yeah birthday time again!

doff

i find it seriously stupid that a guy who bought a house in a golf estate is complaining about golf balls landing on his property. it's a flippin' house on a golf course, near the fairway! what did he expect? everyone to hit on target, everytime? he's definitely out of luck if i were to play golf... first three rules of property (i've been told) are: location, location, location. buy a house on a golf course, expect a few balls to come your way. buy a house near the fairway on said golf course and you're probably going to see a lot more balls come your way. your problem, not the anyone elses... if i buy a house near the highway and then expect someone to move it because it's too noisy do you think they would?

koeberg sabotage

what a load of crap! anybody with abit of common sense knows that it's just not possible (it helps if you also know some-one who works at koeberg). i've been told that there are at least 2 security checks before you actually even enter a main building at koeberg. sure you can drive up to the parking area in koeberg without a second glance from anyone. it's a nature reserve aswell as a nuclear power plant. people actually cycle, hike and even go horse-riding there! you might say "but greenpeace climbed the walls". i would say "whoop-dee-doo" to that. i've walked up to those fences, i've even slid down the dunes there without getting shot at (i did get asked to leave the area). those fences are about (and i might be wrong) 1-2 km away from the koeberg buildings. to get into a restricted area is alot harder than entering the 'main' building. staff are searched thoroughly. the questioning of the security measures at koeberg are unfounded, ask anyone who works there. our current mayor says she had her suspicions about there being sabotage on the reactor. yet koeberg was mystified by the governments claim of sabotage. sabotage - my ass. bolt - my ass. setup for political gain / escape - for sure.

it's not punk'd

so phunkd got nominated for a sa blog award, in the best group blog category. if only the group would actually blog, phunkd might just qualify for the category it has been nominated in! anyway, the reason for the post is because somehow phunkd became punk'd. mistake! this site has nothing to do with the ashton kutcher punk'd show. there's nothing really 'punky' about the site either. it's a non-word so to speak and i came up with the brilliant name years ago (2000), before punk'd was on the air... i would add more links to the famous person's website but our internets is really crap because the power is very erratic here in the western cape at the moment. i can't even upload tiny little pictures. and how i want to... so just to clarify: it's phunkd as is funked...

Happy Valentines Day!

Hello all! hope you had a good valenines day - i spent the evening in soho with a few girly mates... bottles of wine, pizza and throwing bar snacks at happy couples!! i did recieve a bouquet of a dozen red roses though, from a 'secret admirer' - which made my day!! Still really busy at work... and it is only going to get busier as I have decided to do my masters at southbank uni. all sponsered by the company, but will tie me down til 2010 which is the only unfortunate thing. I will be back in cape town for frequent visits though!!! other than that, no juicy news from here at all... enjoy having nix over at the end of the month - wish i was going too, but that will have to wait til september. love and hugs, k x

speed limits

i read about this device that a guy is selling that can warn drivers if they are travelling in the vicinity of laser detectors. it's only for laser detectors though, it doesn't detect the old method of lines across the road connected to a camera. at first i thought why would the state want to outlaw something that would make people slow down rather then wanting to get a fine? the other side of the coin is that there are people that would want this device in order to speed at every opportunity that they have and know that they are going to get away with it. there's also another device, the silver bullet, that jams the laser detector signal and gives an incorrect speed reading. this device is banned. i am of the opinion that the 'warning' device should also be banned. it's really simple actualy, if you're not speeding, you've got nothing to worry about...

test all of it

there is quite a commotion going on here in south africa with regards to donating blood and who's a risk and who isn't. before you donate blood you fill in a form stating your skin colour, sexual orientation, etc. if you're gay, you're a risk, according to the sanbs. the gla has now claimed that 120 of it's members have donated blood without disclosing their sexual orientation. i think that's malicious. because if it's true, the sanbs is going to have to 'destroy' a whole batch of donated blood. some potentially bad and the rest absolutely fine. what's the answer though? it's time consuming and simple but fool proof. test all blood that is donated. discrimination on skin colour, social status or sexual orientation (among other things) is unacceptable.

smack... revisited

yup, somehow i stumbled onto the 'smack the penguin' link, again and i managed to smack it around a few times, again... far less than the last time i tried this. which was way back when? smack or don't. try and beat your high score - if you have the patience or time. my high score last time was less than 316!

defeated

it was really horrible watching the twenty20 international between australia and south africa today. i can't believe that our cricket team couldn't do better than that! they crumbled... particularly horrible is they were unable to complete their innings of a mere 20 overs. bleh! oh, and losing 2 wickets, one after the other, in the 18th (last) over. check out the scorecard if you happened to have missed it and want to torture yourself!
