vball and static

here's some pics from ed playing volleyball this past sunday and winning bronze! i helped sub when warren wasn't available, so i ended up getting a bronze medal aswell as a silver because the girls 6-a-side i subbed for won silver... two medals in one day and i didn't lift a finger! lately i've had a ton of static electricity, so much so, that i am constantly shocking myself on every surface imaginable. i see sparks and it's usually accompanied by a cackle sound... be it ed's nose when we go in to kiss (it's happened only once so far), the car door on my leg or hand - which ever touches first, work collegues, the door at work... i thought it was because i was tying my hair up, but that's just a part of it because i still shock but not with such a kick when my hair is loose. it must be the clothes i am wearing. it's a good thing there's not much lightning here in cape town, it's quite likely that i would attract a very unwelcome bolt of lightning!

silly headline

spotted earlier today on iol: Police offer reward for Cape artist's murder it sounds like they want some-one to murder an artist, for a reward! surely they could've worded that abit better...

Back to Basics

Once again I am back home in good ol´berlin, And have quickly realised that it is a dangerous city for a person like me who has no self control when it comes to parties and nights out. The first couple of days have been spend catching up with friends and enjoying the night life (you could say having a welcome back party, which kind of happens every couple of weeks since I am always travelling!) It is also tough on the budget if you eat out and party all night long but it has been a well deserved break from being in the middle of the village... I hear it is a lot cheaper here than in London where I am thinking of moving next year to give Life there a chance... but Will still see what plans I manage to come up with all that, as I am opening a company here with 4 friends to supply acroobatic numbers to Galas and events here in Germany! I was also going to audition for the ships again, but have decided that at the moment that is a waste of time as the contracts start in november and January and I already have work lined up for these months so I guess it would be unneccessary stress! Anyhow, that is what life here is like at the moment! gonna watch a movie now *G*

that's stoopid!

when some-one mentions pms, you think bad things right? generally speaking ofcourse. bad moods, crazy eating, crazy women... etc. now why would anyone in right mind get a license plate that reads: pms 24 7 wp you're advertising that you're bitch 24 7, why? i just don't get it... ps. i didn't have my camera on me, but this person stays in the same dorp as me - somewhere. so hopefully one day i'll see ms / mrs pms 24 7 again (and be driving behind her again, hopefully) and i'll have my camera on me!

all over the show

i've been crazy busy since i lasted posted something about all the rain we've been having here in cape town this winter [note: total dam storage is now at 81.5%]. all the work at work has been rather welcome as i've been rather frustrated with the lack of anything challenging. i finally got an opportunity to flex and show my php muscles in the past week and a bit on a rather complex site, which is getting shown to the clients tomorrow. in the background and prior to that i've been going through old company backup's and uploading all the pics to a stock images server. so i'm trying to keep myself busy and stretching the boundaries as much as possible! a friend of our's from willliam's town (usa) came to visit and holiday for a couple of weeks, we got a chance to sit down and have dinner together this past sunday. as much as we tried to not be rude about the usa's leader, we couldn't. not that we tried to offend her, i know americans are extremely patriotic. she agreed that bush is taking alot of strain over the katrina hurricane and his inability to grasp the magnitude of the devastation, aswell as his inability to act in a timely manner. i caught the news pretty late last week cause i was that busy racking me brain and not paying attention to anything else except a bunch of code and databases. but when i finally had a moment on thursday last week to see some of the images being broadcast on bbc news, i was shocked! i wasn't even quite sure that i was viewing footage from the great, powerful usa! it looked like a war zone and a third world country struggling with poverty and crime (not to mention a natural disaster). then today i spotted something on the zimbabwean propaganda media site, the herald, that lambasted the president: What you can blame Bush for is that his peanut-sized nodule (brain) did not immediately grasp the magnitude of the disaster. ouch! [via wandering and wondering, provides another link to another ridiculous editorial on the herald website] on the home front, ed was away for most of last week, it's strange being apart from him because we've been stuck together since we got married! besides missing him terribly, i found i had plenty of time and no idea what to do with it. i visited friends and tried to visit my mom but she was always out joling (shock, shock, horror)... on saturday i watched rugby by myself because vinnie was too tired, ed stopped a burglar from robbing and possibly harming him. when ed (aka the machine) finally got back that evening we went to a friend's birthday party all the way in glencairn, simons town. that ended late (3:30am) and only after some-one put 'bobby mcferrin - don't worry be happy' on... on sunday we woke shortly before midday, while outside in the yard, i noticed some-one's handbag had been thrown over our wall. everything seemed to be there, except for the cash, so we phoned the owner and she came around with flowers and chocolates to thank us. it was nice and unexpected. i'd expect some-one to do the same for me, with no reward expected in the least (okay, maybe some chocolates). anyway, got some more work to do...

Update...

Hello all! Hope this blog finds you all well and happy! Not too much has happened since my last entry... although I did have a week in Europe which was great! Managed to get to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands in a week of rushed, frantic touring (in between the required long relaxing coffee breaks in picturesque village squares!!!) Went to a fesitval at the beginning of the month, the 'big chill'. Fantastic! It really does have to be experienced to appreciate! Three days of great music, sunshine, camping and great company... all set in a deer park. Going to another one-dayer this week end on Clapham Common with Nix and a few others... the weather has been shite, so hope that it improves before then!!! Work has been ok - although they are still on my back to do my masters. Not that keen on any further study (unless it is day-release!), so still trying to dodge that!! Otherwise, they are keeping me busy.... and still generously funding an all-too-frequent social scene! (no complaints there!) So, when is dd expected in the uk?? Hope that I will see you this time!!! If you are aound on the weekend of the 10th September, I will be celebrating my'verjaarsdag' (venue still to be confirmed) and would be great to have you there.... In fact - all you bloggers in London are more than welcome to join in a few social bevvies!! That's the news from here - hope to read all your news soon! Nix and myself are planning a little girlie summer hoilday at the end of next month... Portugal, or perhaps Spain... so will no doubt have more news for you then!!! Cheeerio, K x

it's been raining

winter has clearly been in full swing for the past couple of weeks, it's been raining alot and it's been very flippin' cold. so cold that the dew has turned to ice - on cars, people's lawns etc. about 2 weeks ago ed and i went to clanwilliam, arriving pretty late on friday evening. awaking on saturday morning i was well surprised to actually see the effect of all the rain we've been having (not record highs but alot more since last winter), see for yourself (and yes, i got up way too early!): quite a remarkable change, hey? i am back there this weekend and i'll actually try and stand in the same spot and take a photo of the same spot... ha!

An Iced Summer!!

Well what can i say about summer in germany this year, so far it has had its good and bad days but the past week has been F&%$ing freezing, finally my fingers are defrosted enough to actually type! Could it be because I have splashed out 1000 Eoros and bought myself a brand new scooter (see pics in Misc) and mother nature is having a laugh everytime i get caught in the rain and drenched? The brand new scooter by the way kind of blew up after only 100km but of course it has a 2 year guarantee, so i guess i could be taking it in every 100km to get a new engine... that would mean 52 new engines a year at this rate! I have just finished my 2nd saturday of 4 shows, it is really exhausting but there is a great party every saturday and I just have to drag myself out and have a couple of whisky´s and a few tequilas, not to many mind you because i will hate myself at 8am when my alarm clock goes off... got to remind myself to change the ring too because one of these days I will spash the phone into a thousand peices just to get another 5´minutes shut eye! So between the shows the parties and the other parties and joyriding on my scooter albeit a little wet... life here is great, I have just signed another 6 month contract over xmas, so anothe cold white christmas it will be for me! Hope you are all well and ready for summer.... the endless winter in germany would drive you all nuts... gonna drag myself off to spain for some sun soon!

comment spam

i have been getting comment spam, some of you might have noticed the poker, pills and texas poker spam in the comments... the nerve! but i was a little prepared for it, even though i didn't have the time to do it when i noticed it on the w/end, but i did sort it out it this morning. it's a 'manual' thing though, so i guess i should maybe investigate making it more dynamic? here is the code i insert at the top of my page and then add the ip's that i capture from the comments posted on the site. it's not full proof because they chop and change their ip addresses as easy i say 'piss off mo-fo's'... <?php // ban ip code $banned_ip = array(); $banned_ip[] = '00.00.00.00'; // first IP $banned_ip[] = '00.00.00.00'; // second IP $banned_ip[] = '00.00.00.00'; // third IP, just add more if you need foreach($banned_ip as $banned) {     $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];     if($ip == $banned) {         echo "You have been banned! It's probably because you spammed the comments or crawled for questionable content, if you think a mistake has been made contact someone@somewhere.com";         exit();     } } ?> i've been thinking of changing the echo, to just redirect to somewhere, but i've got to find something extremely nasty... ie. a page that just produces insane amounts of popups? anyone got any ideas?

insane

i got the following in an email from a collegue, chances are you've seen it, but maybe you haven't... here's hoping you have a little chuckle before friday starts: After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days. can you imagine you're ecstatic that you got a free ride, only to find yourself commited to a looney bin...

the good and bad

one of the good things that has happened in my world recently is that ed and i have finally got our own spot. we're renting a great spot in bloubergsands. i thought it was called west beach but it's not, bloubergsands does not mean it's near the beach, in fact we're behind some huge dunes / bushes... but we can still hear the ocean rumbling. the move has been crazy and good. the place we moved to was a pit, cause the previous tenants were pigs (real dirty pigs), so we did it up and as a result we don't need to pay rent for the first month, bonus! i will be posting pics of before and after in the coming days... ed and i had a double bed and the dj equipment before we moved (that massive couch we used to have we sold to a mate of ours, we had nowhere to put it when we moved from simon's spot and it was costing us to store it!) and bits and bobs (kettle, snackwich maker, no cutlery / plates / cups etc because we gave that all to melanie when she moved to her spot in table view). so the past few days, w/ends we've been shopping. we got some real good deals on a fridge (that currently has mainly beer in it), a washing machine, dryer, microwave, cutlery (very new sharp knives), pots and pans, vacuum cleaner, curtains, etc. all in all a crap load of shopping has been done. it took us a week to get the place done (it was a real mess) and this past w/end we pretty much moved the bulk of our belongings in and slept over. we're getting used to the new noises that go with the area / house and we found we were sleeping light the first few nights, but that's pretty much a thing of the past already. other good news is that the rains this winter (so far) have filled some of the dams pretty nicely and the overall level of all the dams has finally exceeded 50% (currently it is 53.7%, last year the overall level was 37.1%), more rain is expected over the next week. slightly bad news is that i am worried. my horoscope for today doesn't help either (i usually don't read the damn things):taurus (apr 21 - may 21): something is going on behind the scenes and you need to know about it so that you can make a decision. safeguard yourself by doing a bit of detective work. you will not like what you uncover and might even need to take drastic action i recently pitched an idea to some people, it's still early days, but some of the feedback got me thinking already and ed has given me a fresh spin on things, so this is all very crazy right now. i was already thinking of taking some drastic steps, i've got a feeling that my idea might be 'stolen' and i won't get the credit. seems like i must start doing some detective work...

Too Close for comfort

Hey all... What a hectic couple of days - from the jovial celebrations of London winning the 2012 olympic games, the horrific events of 7/7.... wankers!!! I was already safely in the office when we heard about the underground bombs. We where naturally all shocked, but about an hour later, there was a huge thunderous noice, our building shook... smoke everywhere... horrible burning smell...... the no30 bus had just exploded outside our office! When they called for all first aiders to report to the ground floor, nothing could have prepared me for what I saw - people staggering in, clothes literally blown off them, bloodied and screaming. I helped two women who had been on the bus at the time of the explosion - one, a 21 yr old student whose face was &*^%ed to put it lightly, the other a mother of four - also with bad head wounds. It took ages for the emergancy services to arrive as they where busy with the other three bombs and tending to the more seriously injured who couldn't get away from the bus, so we where sat there with these poor people for what seemed like ages! Glad to say that no one in our office was injured in the bombs, but a few came close - bringing grown men to tears. Our office opened today for the first time since Thursday as it was (and still is) under police investigation. Today - as if we where not on edge enough - the building was evacuated due to 'intelligent' information. (To look on the bright side, it was at lunch time, and we spent the three hours down at the pub!) The way London has picked itself up is amazing and everyone is back on the tube and buses and pulling the finger to all involved in the bombings! I say it again.... wankers! *&%$ing cowerdly bastards who deserve all that is coming to them!!!!!! Lovies to all K xx
