i am the youngest of 3 children to my parents. i was born in zimbabwe in 1977. i remember the year i was born but ask me my age and i have to work out what year we're in and then do the math, i somehow still think i'm 21. an old 21 year old. i can no longer drink like i used to.

i'm married to a gorgeous guy called ed, who has such an immense understanding of me it's unreal! we got married on the beach on valentines day in 2004, and yet it feels like we've been together for much longer than that...

i dream of opening an alternative to the drab shite radio stations we currently have on air in south africa. it's a big dream, i'm working on it. that would be the ultimate dream come true for me. not that i want to be famous, i want people to hear all the great music that is out there...

i have been 'blogging' since i could write the simplest bit of html, that was as far back as 1998. i hope there are no longer records of those blogs, yet i think somehow they're somewhere on the internets, just waiting to jump out of the crevice they've been stuffed into and embarass me!

anyway, this brings me to the present (as i write this), phunkd is home to 8 registered bloggers, consisting of friends and family. they're very irregular bloggers but when they do write something it's always fun and interesting to read. i have developed and morphed this from something that was static and very interactive into something that is dynamic and interactive.

i take great pride in having created a website that is independant of the blogger tools available out there. i developed the comments, the blogging tool and image uploads with the help of some very handy tutorials. i have even discovered how to block spammers from commenting. this is top secret though, i won't tell anyone about it because if the spammers find out, my comments section will no longer be safe!

one last thing: use your indicators!

non-existant

for some odd reason the south african post office website does not work... and this isn't a new thing. i have been trying to get in for a couple of months now to track packages, upon trying to get in this morning it is yet again not loading. i did enquire about this and they shrug their shoulders, but are aware of it as are many other people... the ironic thing is that it says in their slogan on their banner (which i managed to get of google) "conveniently make online payments"! fail

what a chop!

our police of chief has said he hopes that the united states of america gets knocked out early on in the world cup so president barack obama will not come and visit our country...the article is short, but the comment seems to be have been made in reference to our security being sufficient to have heads of state visit our country without their legions of bodyguards and secret service agents tagging along. it's not that they doubt it (though they should in my opinion), it's simply the way they travel. be it in their own back yard or to deepest darkest africa...sometimes our 'leaders' need to think before they open they mouths and let words randomly fall out!

choice?

i read with great satisfaction today that south africa will finally get another player in the pay-tv arena. the newest (and only other pay-tv option) is on digital media. finding out what they are offering is proving hard to find but with options from R99/month and R249/month it is significantly cheaper than their rivals, where they offer a full boutique (without extra's) at R529/month. this is indeed good news and will hopefully give the consumer much more choices...

this tmo needs his eyes checked

i have been pretty busy because i should've written sooner about this but that tmo in the stormers vs brumbies match should have his eyes checked or get a better screen to watch the replays on because even on youtube it looks like a try to me...

kids are listening to this...

i saw that an 'artist' called lady gaga was big on the charts so i had a listen to the chart-topping song, dance. didn't get it in all honesty, why is everyone raving about it? so, lady gaga has released a new song called pokerface. so what? well, while driving around earlier today the song came on the radio and it's only really the 2nd time i have had a listen. the first time was when i saw the music video and in all honesty was probably overwhelmed by the visuals and didn't get a good listen to the lyrics. but i had to say to myself upon hearing the lyrics earlier in the car, wtf? I wanna roll with him a hard pair we will beA little gambling is fun when you're with me (I love it)Russian Roulette is not the same without a gunAnd baby when it's love if it's not rough it isn't fun, fun i am really concerned about the rough love part of the song, what kind of message is this sending to the young people listening to this? are the girls thinking that 'rough love' is acceptable and do guys now think that the girls like 'rough love'. this is opening an avenue for abuse in my opinion. maybe i am reading too much into it but in all honesty i had the following lyrics to listen to when i was an impressionable young-un: Build up your confidenceSo you can be on top for onceWake up who cares aboutLittle boys that talk too muchI seen it all go downYour game of love was all rained outSo come on baby, come on overLet me be the one to hold you - Mr. Big "To be with you" here's a list of 90's songs and few links to the lyrics

the tide is turning

i managed to catch the inauguration of the new president of the united states of america - i hope this isn't becoming a political blog - as you do on an average weekday eve every other 4 years. i was glad that i managed to catch the main hoo-ha speeches, especially the new presidents'. i liked the hard-arsed stance, but the highlight was the end of it all, the prayer:...when brown will stick aroundwhen white will do rightwhen yellow will mellow...amenit got quite a few chuckles from the crowd and i think it put a needed light hearted-ness on the 'stiff upper lip' ceremony, imho, a nice way to end...on a little bit of an obscure note, i read an article about the betting on phrases that may be used by barack obama in his inauguration speech. i wonder if the "god bless america" was close enough for his phrase of "god bless the united states of america"... somehow, i think not (it is gambling after all)? i am not sure about the other phrases mentioned in that article?

daylight robbery

in june / july of this year, the competition commission made recommendations that the banks should reduce charges over a wide variety of services. today, 5 and half months down the line, there is another story about this. this seems to be the full technical report...it still doesn't change the fact that the findings prove we are being ripped off and almost 6 months later nothing has changed.while these were only recommendations, time-frames were set for their implementation, after which commissioner shan ramburuth would initiate official investigations into the practices. absa seems to have taken the first step with a r5 charge for their entry-level customers. what does that mean? who is an entry-level customer? what service is this r5 charge for?it seems that all other recommendations from the competition commission 'require engagement with other stakeholders and banks'. why engage other banks? the whole point of the enquiry into bank charges was to create competition but if the banks are discussing this amongst themselves, what's the chances of more competition or more of the same services and charges?i'd really like to see the recommendations made by the commission come into effect. i wonder what the time frames are? and whether the commissioner will really follow up with investigations? if nothing happens, we still have the government...here are two more articles that should get you fuming or thinking about the way you bank:The cost of convenience just went upBanks found to be over-charging

who will it be?

the last time around i was really really sure that gw bush wouldn't win a second term as president of the usa... how could it be possible? he's a bumbling, war monger, spending all of the american peoples money on fighting lame excuses for war...i lost a bet of a cream donut.this time around i really cannot fathom anyone putting a republican back into the top spot, but i ain't betting on it... americans have proved to be unpredictable when it comes to things that seem so obvious to the rest of the world. i do think that when it came to the last elections outside influences (ie. the rest of the world) telling americans how to vote certainly didn't help. i felt it was a sort-of 'you can't tell me what to do' scenario and they did the opposite of what the rest of the world expected.that didn't work out too well, maybe they have more common sense this time around?

9 months later...

i have been so bad at blogging, it's mad to think that it's really 9 months since i have blogged (time span it takes for a baby to develop and pop out). i really did have good intentions of doing so more often and even to back date some stuff.there has just been no real urge. i have found many other things to do rather. my bad...this is just to say that i am still around, although busy.
